Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

TariffClassify ("we," "our," or "us") operates the website at tariffclassify.ai (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you use Google Sign-In, your name and profile picture as provided by Google. We do not store your Google password.

2.2 Product data you submit

When you use the classification tool, we collect:

  • Product descriptions and attributes you enter into the form
  • Product images you upload (stored in encrypted object storage)
  • Answers you provide to AI-generated clarifying questions
  • The classification results returned by the AI

2.3 Usage data

We automatically collect IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps for security and rate-limiting purposes. IP addresses are stored as one-way cryptographic hashes (SHA-256) and cannot be reversed.

2.4 Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in and, for guest users, an httpOnly cookie to track your one free classification. Google Analytics also sets cookies (typically _ga and _ga_*) to count unique visitors and remember session state — these are configured with IP anonymisation and are not used for advertising or cross-site retargeting.

2.5 Aggregated analytics

We record anonymous, aggregated counts of certain events on our own servers — for example, classification completions, sign-ins, and credit purchases — so we can measure which parts of the Service are useful. These server-side records contain only the event type and, where relevant, the page slug or sign-in provider, and are not shared with any third party.

We additionally use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled to understand traffic sources, page-level engagement, and how visitors move through the site. Google receives a truncated IP address, the page URL, a cookie-based visitor identifier, and standard browser metadata. Google Analytics is used solely for our own product analytics; we have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features, or audience export to ad platforms. 3. Data retention

We retain different categories of data for different periods:

  • Classification history (product descriptions, images, AI results, conversation turns) — retained for 3 years from the date of classification so you can access your history in your account. After 3 years, this data is permanently and automatically deleted.
  • Guest session records — retained for 30 days, then permanently deleted.
  • Account information (email address, name) — retained for as long as your account is active.

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing privacy@tariffclassify.ai. We will respond within 30 days.

4. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the classification service
  • Generate HTS tariff code classifications using AI
  • Detect and prevent abuse (rate limiting, fraud prevention)
  • Send transactional emails (sign-in links, receipts)
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your product descriptions or images to train AI models.

5. Third-party services

We share data with the following third-party processors:

  • Anthropic, Inc.— Your product descriptions and images are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate classifications. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed through their API. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train models by default.
  • Google LLC— If you choose Google Sign-In, Google provides your account information to us under Google's OAuth terms.
  • Hostinger International Ltd. — Our infrastructure runs on Hostinger servers. All data is stored on these servers.

6. Data security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). Product images are stored in encrypted object storage with access controls. Passwords are never stored — we use email magic-links and OAuth only. We implement IP-based rate limiting and abuse detection to protect the integrity of the Service.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; to object to or restrict processing; and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@tariffclassify.ai. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have done so, please contact us and we will delete the data immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
